Our story
CEARC along with its project partners have embarked on an ambitious project to encourage the co-operative sector to not only report on their SDG performance but to also nudge them to take on new initiatives. We do this by:
- Providing co-operatives with an easy-to-use online tool where they can enter their information regarding sustainability and the 7 principles
- Enabling co-operatives to compare their performance with other co-operatives
- Providing an easy and efficient way for co-operatives to download reports and graphics for use across social media, communications, annual reports, etc.
Who we are
The ACT project is led by the Centre of Excellence in Accounting and Reporting for Co-operatives (CEARC), which is located at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
CEARC is a hub for academic and applied research on the performance of co-operatives, credit unions and mutuals. We work with co-operatives, accounting practitioners, public accountants and academics to accurately reflect and communicate, through accounting and reporting, the unique and important roles co-operatives play in our society and economy.
CEARC has international reach, with a respected global voice in the development and interpretation of accounting policies and standards that recognizes the distinct co-operative and credit union form of business, and contributes to excellent co-operative business practice.
With funding from CPA Canada and assistance from IRECUS and Co-operatives Mutuals Canada, the project team has worked with 16 volunteers from the co-operative community to identify 20 indicators that can be used by co-operatives to measure performance related to SDG’s and the 7 principles of co-operatives.
